QR Codes stands for Quick Response Code; they were first made in 1994 in Japan by Denson-wave who made the code for Toyota to be able to track manufacturing codes. (1) Since then QR Codes have grown in popularity and are being used for many more things. QR Codes are a two-dimensional barcode which can be read by smart phones, tablets and QR reading devises. (2) QR Codes look different to a regular vertical line barcode which we are used to, instead QR Codes consist of small black square dots arrange into a pattern on a white background. (3) The information encoded in the barcode can be linked to many things including texts, emails, websites and phone numbers so virtually any kind of data. (2)
QR Codes can store a huge amount of data compared to the original vertical lined barcode which can hold 30 numbers, QR Codes can hold up to 7,089 numbers. (2) QR Codes have the potential to become very popular and could be used in pretty much everything from billboards, web pages, magazines and many more,
You could use QR Codes in a variety of different ways, in a business you could use them as a link about a product containing all the information about that product , you could add them to your business card, add them to advertising and marketing, flyers, posters, tv ads, invitations, the list goes on and on. (4) Outside of the business world QR Codes can be used for games and apps, mobile payments, music links, social media links like Facebook and Twitter, customization, airline boarding ect.
